Black Market Stilton

One of the many projects I’ve started and run out of time for is a graphic novel called ‘Black Market Stilton’. It’s had a couple of iterations in the planning stages but it came to life during the pandemic as a story about a monk set slightly into the future.

I designed a few pages that introduce some of the characters. Maybe I’ll come back to it later but thought I’d share what I’d done thus far. The main protagonist is a ‘universalist’ monk – one of a group of mendicant wanderers who follow a monastic way of life. The novel would have explored their interactions with a number of mercenary groups – the ‘falcons’ who run the underground illegal trade in banned food (such as stilton).

It’s about politics and power. It’s about how spirituality is so important to society.
