Biblical Apps

As the news hits that the You Version App has hit 30 million downloads, I thought I’d take a look at a few of the Bible Apps available.

The You Version App boasts More than 100 versions in many  different languages (including Spanish, German, French, Chinese, and more). You can Choose from 150+ different reading plans for daily selections to keep you on track when you’re on the go. Quick search allows you to search the entire Bible for a word, phrase, or verse, and get your results in seconds. Easy navigation allows you to jump to a verse quickly by typing the reference in the search box. The most intriguing things about the You Version App (which is an extension of what makes the website so brilliant) is that you can access other people’s comments, thoughts, sermon plans and whatever is posted relating to a given verse or topic. My guess is that this digital hive of information has gone a long way to making this App so popular. It obviously helps that the team behind developing the App have done so on as many platforms as they can and I wonder why other organisations don’t do the same?

I look forward to seeing what happens with future developments of You Version, more info can be found on the You Version Website and  this post by @jamespoulter goes into slightly more depth.

Another favourite of mine (although it has divided audiences) is Granny’s Bible Dojo, a sort of karate fueled brain gym game to help memorize the books of the Bible.

I was taught a song when I was small to help me memorize the books of the new testament, I’ve never forgotten it and now I’m using it in primary schools. This game is the modern version of that song – an interactive and pretty amusing series of lessons where you chop planks of wood in the right order to gain prizes in Granny’s Curio. I love this as Apps go but I do wonder if it’s more important to let children and young people know Jesus loves them first.

If you’re into interactive, visual type Bible engagement then the Glo Bible App is probably worth checking out. It’s now even more amazing than when it first came out as they have programmed in some of the You Version tools within the App.

The Glo Bible website explains that the App is easy and natural to use. Find what you need, when you need it – plus a lot more. Glo provides simple, intuitive ways to browse its Biblical content through 5 main lenses. These lenses are; Bible, Atlas, Timeline, Media and Topical. As someone who wants to share Biblical facts in an interesting way, this App has been invaluable to my work.

  1. Great post indeed. I would like to add another app to this list — Sacred Words

    Sacred Words iPhone App
Sacred Words is an innovative word game where not only can you use normal dictionary words, you can use words from the Bible as well! Additionally, you can further your mind by actually clicking on a word to retrieve the standard and/or Biblical definition of the word that was last played.

You can download it from here
